carnivorous plants

 The plant in question had a central mass with what looked like a dead tree with a small amount of water with it surrounded by water. All of this was deceptive. The plant had a root bulb in which you or an animal would stand on there its mass. The ground was a mass of root tendrils that acted as the ears of the plants as it could feel the vibrations of the prey. During this process it would open an an orifice on the dead tree which is surprisingly maneuverable as it would target the prey with barbs it would shoot out towards the prey. Each barb was incredibly sharp with a dose of paralytic poison. Once the target was hit the poison worked very fast the prey would fall into the water which was later found to be filled with poison at the top would infect the wound killing the animal as the animal would sink to the bottom digestive juices would start the process of digestion. Within the bulb of the plant was found there were unique structures that acted as fat reserves for the plant. What drew the prey in was a sickly sweet smell from the central. The prey would come in to feed then as it would turn to leave it would be attack and killed. The plant also had primitive eyes on its stalk which could detect light and dark but also movement. It had a rudimentary intelligence. It would produce spores which would catch on the wind. It also later on that plants of the same genus would create colonies of inter connected mycelium would allow it "talk" other with the colony. Later discover by a unicorn found that all of the colonies were interconnected that each plant was in fact part of larger organism. The planet was put a protected list given no one but researchers could travel there. Given time the fungus could in fact gain full sentients as a hive mind.
